[SOLVED] USB Windows 7 Installation | A Required CD-DVD Drive Device Driver is Missing (2018)

1906 ratings | 243040 views
UPDATE: Here is a NEW link to download Gigabyte's Windows 7 USB Installation Tool: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NHsqjK7CZky9tnq0a0L7avPZxt5EX9e-/view?usp=sharing Download and extract, then follow the same procedure shown in the video. Subscribe to EasyTechs: https://goo.gl/dDSBNL Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/easytechs In this video I we will see how to fix the problem of missing USB 3.0 driver during windows 7 installation. This problem is shown by the message “A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now”. The primary reason for this error is that the USB controller chip on the laptop is not recognized by Windows 7, so Windows 7 is unable to reach or access the computer hard disk because the USB lacks the required driver which is the USB 3.0 driver. This problem is actually unique to Windows 7, if you try a similar installation process on the same PC with Windows 10 from a USB stick, you won’t encounter this error. Also if you have the option of installing using a Windows 7 DVD, then you should get past this error. The idea of this solution is to install the required USB driver in order to enable Windows 7 gain access to the PC hard drive and proceed with the installation. Here I’ve simplified the driver installation process into two basic steps; Step 1: Download the Gigabyte's Windows 7 USB Installation Tool from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NHsqjK7CZky9tnq0a0L7avPZxt5EX9e-/view For different chipset models check download from this link: https://www.gigabyte.com/Support/Utility?kw=Windows+USB+installation+tool&p=1 Step 2: Installing the USB driver. To do that you insert your bootable USB with the Windows 7 installation, then go to the folder where we saved the downloaded file and extract the zipped folder. After the extraction you should have a folder named “WindowsImage Tool”. Open the folder, you should see this WindowsImageTool application, run the application (you don’t have to worry about the files you have saved on your USB device, the Windows image tool will not override or delete your files). Leave the source path as “None-Add USB Drivers” then in the destination path, select the USB that contains your Windows 7 installation files. Here the “Add USB drivers to an offline Windows 7 image” is selected by default, now select the Add NVMe drivers option to an offline Windows 7 image as well, automatically the “Add packages to an offline Windows 7” is also selected. So you should have all three options checked. Then click on start to begin the installation process. An alternative solution is to try to change the USB port where you attached your bootable Windows USB stick, certain computers come with the required USB driver installed in only one of the USB ports, so you might try changing your USB port to see if it works for you. Another alternative is to visit your manufacturer support page and download the USB 3.0 driver, and install it during the Windows 7 installation.

You might need an external mouse to complete the installation, then try installing the drivers for the touchpad, this could be because your laptop model doesnt support earlier windows

I recently encountered this problem and what about if you don't have an USB DRIVE. but a DVD media creation tool?? would it still be downloaded? Thank for the video!
OMAR P. (11 days ago)
Well! it did it. I've created the DVD driver myself from a link in the Microsoft website. that's probably what it is: I did not know how to create it. maybe if I would have purchased it: it would be another story. can this just explained case be the reason why I encountered this problem??

T Steele (1 month ago)
+EasyTechsThank you for trying to help. :) I tried unzipping on another PC and running again with no luck. Same message. I also tried installing 3.0 drivers as you showed, however they were inaccessible when I tried selecting them in start-up. And changing the usb port was useless. I only have 2 and they are both 3.0. This is such a frustrating issue.
EasyTechs (1 month ago)
try unzipping the package on another PC, then run again, also ensure you have enough space on the USB stick

Hello sir I got my brand new Lenovo IdeaPad 530s equipped with 2 USB 3.0, I have achieved successfully all of the steps in your video. but I got stuck in the "where do you want to install Windows" window,  it says no drivers were found click load to drive to provide mass storage driver for installation". I have changed the USB ports, downloaded the gigabyte driver, try to manually install like shown in the video (didnot work), even installed a similar install update by Lenovo and it didn't work.  please help,,what should I do?

I have a dvd oem Windows 7 pro disc and it is saying it can't access. I have a new Samsung saga he in it . Any advice? I am going nuts . And possibly money .
EasyTechs (1 month ago)
Maybe test the dvd on another PC and see if it works, if not then the dvd is probably scratched or unreadable, in which case a USB installation becomes a better option
amiri900 (1 month ago)
Thanks a lot! I could fix the CD/DVD driver issue at installation startup. But now my problem is that when it come to select a partition there are so many partitions which I assuem are related to recovery partition. So I'm trying to format the main big partition which current windows 10 is installed to install windows 7 but it can NOT format/erase that partition and I still can not install windows!!! What should I do on this step now?!
EasyTechs (1 month ago)
Maybe you backup your files on another drive before installing windows 7, that way you can format the entire drive
