I bought one of these 4k Roku tv's at walmart a year or so ago and it was horrible. The picture was much worse than the panasonic 1080 tv I was replacing. It didn't even look as good as my 43 inch 720p plasma tv. And the contrast wasn't even good enough that I could properly set my black levels. It did sell me on the Roku device though. I took it back the same day, well in the middle of the night lol, and replaced it with a sharp and roku box. Cost more, but looks much better. I also use my TV as my main computer monitor as well. I had the same problem with a cheap Insignia 1080P tv from best buy. The picture just didn't look good at all to me. That one I kept and gave to my mom who was using my plasma tv. She actually really likes it but all she watches is HGTV and is happy watching a 20 inch monitor in the kitchen. She is 76 so I cut her some slack lol.
I just purchased the 6 series and really like it. I pre-ordered the wireless speakers which will ship in October as the speakers on the TV are not great but the wireless speakers appear to be freaking awesome. My favorite feature is the sound control. Now I will not strain to hear dialog and not be blasted out of my TV room by commercials or action sequences. I hope you review the wireless speakers as I would love to hear your insight. Thanks you!
Not sure what TV you reviewed, but the speakers on mine are stellar. I have the S401 (which is just Wal-mart's edition of the S405); and the speakers work great. It seems far more like you were looking for a way to add another affiliate link, and decided to choose the speakers because people always waste money on sound bars. What's sad, is that make it a big deal that it is a Roku TV and saving one $50-$55 by not having to buy a Roku stick or the like, but then try act like there is some need to spend $80 for a sound bar which is not really necessary.
As for the look of the TV, it looks just fine. The newer model really doesn't look different, and neither one is that different from the look of any other modern TV.
This tv is awesome. Bought last year and paired it with my unlimited Tmobile one hotspot feature from my iPhone and have never had a Single problem streaming content. I love the simple roku remote and have yet to experience a single problem. Will definitely stick with TCL for my next tv purchase
I purchased the 5 series 2018 version and yes the speakers suck but I personally don't care as I use 7.1 surround sound headphones. This TV is great for the price if you don't want to spend 1k on a 4k tv this is the choice for you
I got a 43 inch Samsung TV for 400$ after discount as a show piece.
Its a great TV to watch 4k content on them.
I know its not much of a discount considering the original price is 475$ but in my country this cost like 550$
What is up with these newer TVs having stands that nearly reach the edge of the TV?!?!?! The older style single base stands are far better because if you don't have much table/desk space, you can put the TV right to edge with the screen hanging over the edge without it falling off giving you more room for consoles, games, controllers etc.
Because newer TVs like this are not really intended to sit on a desk or stand, but instead to be mounted to the wall or celling. Also, you have just as much room for consoles, games and controllers as they can sit beneath the TV.
Why would you talk about cost per linear inch instead of square inch? Each linear inch adds more area than the previous linear inch. Seems like a more reasonable way to track price trends, especially considering how much bigger TVs are getting.
I got a new TCL QLED 65" for $1350 with free delivery. Picture quality is ridiculously life like and looks as good as the Samsung QLED that costs 4X more. The built in Harmon Kardon speakers are way better than anything in the Sony or Samsung 65" TV's. My B&W surround system is really the way to go though.
Good TV... Out of the box the "Self-Threading" screw holding in the left stand leg decided to chew through too much... case Vibrates with a buzzing sound when the DEEP 8 watt base kicks in. Worst of all, playing any new App on the Android side of the "Smart" TV is not possible because Google play will not update... other than that this really is an OK, 6/10 TV ... but for the price its 10/10.
"why are you all buying this?" I'm not. I still have my 16 year old projection tv and have no plans of replacing it. I probably never will unless it breaks and can't be fixed or would cost more to fix then to replace.
I have a Westinghouse 42" 1080p that I bought in January 2007 and it still is going strong and goes bright enough to view it at the beach. I don't think I could buy a dim looking 4K HDR set. I already have a 4K HDR laser projector, so I need something that goes bright for hooking to my PC for daytime use.
I remember buying a 33 or 35 in flat screen TV in the early 2000s. It cost about as much. I think I bought it between 2005 and 2010. I remember buying it because I paid off my truck. I still have the truck. It's 18 years old. I haven't owned a TV in seven years. Perhaps longer.
All the cons presented here are negligible. They are certainly the corners that were cut, but they were *smart* corners to cut.
-- Subpar at best speakers - hook it up to a playbar or even an old receiver and a set of wired speakers for next to nothing.
-- 1/4" thick bezel - who effing cares. Watch your programming, not the edge of the TV.
-- Not quite bright enough for very light settings -- maybe, but it's not that bad and would have to be a VERY bright room to be truly negative.
Even the UHD implementation is rather decent, though it does make the TV take an additional brightness hit. Built-in Roku has spoiled me for all other TVs (this is our second). Overall this thing cost literally 1/3 the price that my father's Samsung did, and though it's not as "good", I like it better.
There's a very good reason this TV is selling like scones at a fair - it's tasty to look at and use and it's an incredibly good value.
Sorry, my friend has a mobile shop Here in Kochi, India. Once he sold 2 TCL Mobile, that was his first and final product of the TCL he sold. Because both the mobiles were compliant and it was returned by the customer after the next day of purchase.
Best Buy just had a sale for a 46" LG. I also got a TCL, I paid a similar price for both, but since the LG was originally priced $200 more, of course it's better. Waaay better screen, quality and software. I had an issue with the TCL tv not seeing the satellite box though. I had to do a full factory reset to connect to, but the TV is really aimed for the cable cutters, so it works great as a Roku and wifi TV, but be careful connecting any auxiliary stuff, it may not be recognized.
Sony is now a total failure in the TV industry. It is AWFUL the way Sony's high prices have caused people to completely forget about Sony. The arrogant reps at Sony need to realize these LED TV sets are all the same, and people aren't going to waste money on fancy marketing names.
With all due respect sir , they are not the same! The processors used to run the technologies used to dim the TV and its back lighting, reproduce colors and the speed at which it can accomplish these things at high resolutions, are completely different. Notice the differences in glare, color replication, screen back lighting uniformity, response times and refresh rates. Some LED's are edge lit and some are direct which totally changes the severity of back light bleed patterns. Not to mention all the panels types, some reducing the possibility of burn in and some eliminating the risk all together. You are the majority of the market, ill informed and ignorant to facts. This fact however does prove your theory about Sony not making TV's for the majority of TV buyers.
So it has a low refresh rate, low-brightness, high-glare, bad speakers, thick body, thick bezeling? That's why it's cheap. It's not a very good TV. I might pick one up for my garage, but as a primary TV? Better off with a Vizio M or P series.
Is that what that's called? The soap opera effect? Ughhhh. I used to hate going to friends houses and watching their TVs lol. It looks like everything was forced to 60 frames even though all the content was 30 natively.
I have the 50 inch 4K smart tv and absolutely love it! Not sure the year or model but I believe it was 2017! It looks absolutely amazing with my PS4 pro. I’m not a picture snob so that could be it too. But the 4K content and HDR looks really great on this. But you cannot really tell unless your standing right next to the tv or if it was a bigger like 60 inches or higher.
ZVOX sound bases all the way! I have two of them and they are also my favorite gift to friends. No more riding the volume buttons during movies and TV shows. You have to check them out. Oh, and I also have four TCL TV's running Plex and a Roku stick in my luggage so I can stream Plex at hotels. Love it!
It was the cheapest best bang for the buck, and the picture was good and Im happy with the built in roku. The speakers I could care less about, we watch TV with ear buds anyway, I have hearing loss, for the regular average Walmart shopper. It's best bang for the buck I could find. It does a fine job.
