Windows 10: How To Clean Factory Reset and Remove Personal Information

516 ratings | 106706 views
Resetting lets you choose whether to keep your files or remove them, and then reinstall Windows 10. This tutorial will walk through how to remove all personal settings, applications and settings and restore Windows 10 to a factory (default) state. This tutorial will address the following objectives: Factory reset Windows 10 Factory reset Windows 10 without password Factory reset Windows 10 from startup Factory reset Windows 10 command prompt Factory reset Windows 10 not working Factory reset Windows 10 stuck Factory reset Windows 10 not working Factory reset not working While there’s nothing to stop you selling your PC with the contents of its hard drive intact, it’s a very bad idea. Apart from the fact that you’ll be giving the new owner access to all of your files and other personal information, you’ll also be selling any software that’s still installed. Even if this was legal (which it usually isn’t), that means you won’t be able to install the same software on your new PC — not without breaking the law, anyway. So the solution is to wipe your PC and restore it to a factory fresh state, with nothing but the Windows operating system installed. This, incidentally, is something you might also want to do when you want to reinstall Windows from scratch to give your computer a faster performance. This process has changed a bit with the arrival of Windows 10 and there are two ways to do it, depending on what you want to achieve. We’ll cover both. Guide to determining what type of reset to be performed (courtesy of Microsoft): Keep my files Reinstalls Windows 10 and keeps your personal files. Removes apps and drivers you installed. Removes changes you made to settings. Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.) Remove everything Reinstalls Windows 10 and removes all your personal files. Removes apps and drivers you installed. Removes changes you made to settings. Removes any apps your PC manufacturer installed. (If your PC came with Windows 10, apps from your PC manufacturer will be reinstalled.) If you're planning to donate, recycle, or sell your PC, use this option and choose to fully clean the drive. This might take an hour or two, but it makes it harder for other people to recover files you've removed. Restore factory settings : Re-installs the version of Windows that your PC came with (either Windows 8 or Windows 8.1) and removes your personal files. Removes apps and drivers you installed.Removes changes you made to settings. Re-installs any apps your PC manufacturer installed on your PC. This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung).

I got stuck at 24% for many hours and i got this. a configuration change was requested to clear this computer's tpm i press to do that but nothing is happening
MDTechVideos (7 months ago)
Try using the Windows 10 media creation tool and create a bootable USB/CD/DVD. Boot your computer from it....and select the "Repair" option instead of "Install" to launch the troubleshooting utility and try and perform a system restore.
Muhammad yusuf (7 months ago)
i tried to do all the step, but after the reset & fill new personal data. my laptop only show blackscreen. how do i fix this?
MDTechVideos (7 months ago)
Use the Windows 10 media creation tool and boot your computer from it. Select "Repair" and it will take you to the troubleshooting menu.

Nicholas Sage (1 year ago)
my laptop from Acer has been reseting for 6 weeks and it starts at 66 percent than it gets to 88 percent than it restarts at 66 percent
El Prof (1 year ago)
Did you have to enter your product key again? I'm looking to sell my laptop but I don't have the product key anymore and I don't want to risk losing my legit install of Windows. I also don't want to leave any trace of my old files so would the option to remove everything AND clean the drives require a product key?
Aerdian (1 year ago)
You can just select "skip" or "enter a product key later" and the next owner can use their own product key.
Souvik 007 (1 year ago)

resetting the pc choosing " keep my files" option , so will it ask to enter product key ?? second question do i need to insert windows 10 CD in case of resetting the pc ? kindly do reply.
MDTechVideos (1 year ago)
It should not need a product key. If you go through the troubleshooting utility, you should not need a CD/DVD. Just hold down the shift key while restarting your computer to get into the troubleshooting menu.

Hello, I bought an HP Pavilion Notebook that came with Windows 10, but after I select "Just remove my files" it tells me that my PC was recently upgraded to Windows 10, even though I didn't install it. Them it proceeds to tell me that it would go back to the OS it previously had. Would I have to buy Windows 10 if I do proceed to reset my PC by selecting this option?
