Urban perinatal health

03:59
Perinatal health is associated with health during childhood and later life. Large differences in perinatal health between urban populations and neighborhoods are related to premature birth and low birth weight. Not only medical risks but especially non-medical risks related to poverty are involved. An innovative integrated chain of antenatal care, crossing medical and social domains, should therefore put in place. Invest in the happiness and health of future generations by taking good care of pregnant women right now. further reading: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4755131/pdf/PPE-30-201.pdf

Jersey Shore introduces its first Kidney Transplant Program

01:17
The Kidney Transplantation Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center has collaborated our services with Hackensack University Medical Center to provide our patients with comprehensive, convenient and a unified approach to patient care. James Lim, M.D., FACS, board-certified surgeon, Program Director, and Chief of Transplant Surgery and Organ Transplantation at Hackensack University Medical Center, now provides Monmouth and Ocean county residents with pre-transplant evaluations in his Neptune office. Dr. Lim recommends transplant surgery for dialysis patients so that not only can they live longer, but so that patients can have a better quality of life. Because patients have to be dialyzed every other day, it may become a burden to do things like go on vacation. Some patients have struggled for so long that transplant surgery becomes the only option. He and his team strive to help patients every step of the way, from consultations, to transplant selection, to disease management before the transplant, all the way through the surgery and their follow-up treatment. Continuity of care and follow up are key parts of transplant services. We are now able to provide patients with comprehensive, personalized education on monitoring their condition, administration of anti-rejection medications, how to recognize the signs of infection or rejection, and returning to a more normal lifestyle.
